Repeal abstinence education

On Day One of the next president's term, Kate believes that he or she should overturn funding for abstinence education because it is not scientifically and socially proven to address the problem.

Ban the Ban on Abortion!

The next administration should suspend the "Gag Rule," because women all over the world are suffering from the lack of resources to prevent unsafe abortions, whose number only increases through the Gag Rule's denial of access to education and contraception.

Make an Executive Order to Increase Educational Opportunity Programs

On day one the president should make an executive order to increase the funding and resources to TRIO and GEAR UP programs that help low-income and first generation college bound students prepare for and successfully graduate from college. These programs have helped disadvantaged students for 40+ years and would help more students help us compete globally and also stop the cycle of poverty. Patrick Ewing, Angela Basset, John Quinones and Fatima Siad are the living proof.

Feed the World

Terrorism is born in poverty, hunger, thirst, lack of medicine, lack of sanitation, lack of education, and oppression. It would behoove to take a lesson from Jesus, who understood that a person's belly must be filled before the heart can be approached. It would be a far more effective use of our resources to eliminate the sources of terrorism by building and staffing hospitals and schools, by providing clean sources of water and electricity, and creating sustainable farming and economy.

Education:

Most studies would indicate that we are seeing a decreased ability from our academic institutions. A idea to consider is adding two years to the public shcool curriculumn. Pre through ten, would encompass the same educational requirements of today's public schools. Grades eleven through fourteen would be some form a liberal arts training. Then allow today's youth to get specialized training. Training a mind to think for itself is the foundation upon which a democracy can survive.

Make the Internet Free for Everyone!

If I were president, On Day One I would make the internet free for every single American. This would allow us to compete with the rest of the world in economics, science, education, and, most importantly, democracy. Technology is a tool that we can use to make democracy relevant to people's lives in the 21st century.

Educate America

On day one, the president should announce a new Educate America plan. No Child Left Behind has been killing our nations schools and diminishing the quality of our students. The president should shift focus away from testing and back on the students. Students should be given real, hands-on life experiences in and out of the classroom. Children are the future of this country. Let's give them the experiences they deserve to make our futures bright.

Add a Homeschooling amendment to the Constitution!

"I believe that school makes complete fools of our young men, because they see and hear nothing of ordinary life there." --Petronius Satyricon. The framers of the Constitution never once considered education to be a role of the Federal Government. Education should begin first and foremost in the home. This next President needs to promote an amendment to the Constitution which protects a Parent's right to educate their child at home.

Transfering Excess Funds from US Defense Budget

I support Lester Brown's idea as written and charted in his book, Plan B 2.0. He points out that if we reduced our excessive defense funding by one-third and transfered those dollars to environmental actions, as well as endeavors to improve human education, health, and welfare, we could solve our stressed planet's troubles, globally!
