That was the question—with respect to the global problems we currently face—that Tom Brokaw posed to the spectacular panel at "Enhancing the U.S.'s Role in the World," sponsored by t
Install solar-energy roof panels atop the White House to supply all electrical energy the WH uses (and give some back to the grid). Convert WH limos/cars to plug-in hybrids, to show the rest of us the way. This is a no-brainer: Some solar company/association would do it for free for the publicity (the real point, of course). Ditto the car company you choose to donate the electric vehicles. You'll have to show some backbone re bucking the auto/oil interests, who will oppose it. CAN YOU????
End the Iraq War & bring all troops home from all bases abroad. Sell foreign bases & pay down national debt. End the Federal Reserve. Give tax incentives to individuals & businesses for renewable energy such as wind, solar, micro-hydro, geothermal, etc., set high efficiency standards for all new government buildings & vehicles, retrofit old government buildings with green technologies, shut down Departments of Education, DEA, BATF, IRS, DHS, & TSA, and abide by the Constitution!!
Get us off oil first. Get us to develop our coal bed methane resources second. Rebuild our grid (make it smarter and more efficient) and then let solar and wind play on a level field with coal and nuclear.
Solar tax credits, tarrifs on imported fruit & vegitables , manditory installation of solar panels on all new tax payer funded buildings, tax on plastic grocery bags, tax credit for grey water systems, tougher junk mail laws, ratify Kyoto!
Eliminate all subsidies for traditional fuels (coal, oil and nuclear) and invest all energy-related funds into renewable energy resources like solar, wind and cellulosic ethanol with the goal of completely eliminating dependence on fossil fuels and nuclear power.
Immediately fund wide range of international collaborations for education, research and commercialization of ethical, clean renewable energy and energy efficiency designs, strategies and technologies, including tidal, wind, solar, geothermal, plasma converter & MagneGas™, safer thorium nuclear, electric and public transport, compressed air and zero emission vehicles (ZEVs), permaculture, innovation, social entrepreneurship, sustainable building & urban planning/design, vegetarianism, etc.
We need a government-sponsored program to outfit every government building, commercial building and private residence with solar photovoltaic equipment. What we can't power with local solar PV, we can supplement with local wind and small hydroelectric or biomass generators. Likewise, there must be a government mandate for plug-in cars with their own photovotaic array. Industry and commercial vehicles must utilize these energy alternatives or face prohibitive emissions fines.
There are three alternative energy sources that leave no residue, are constantly renewable, and cause no problems: goethermal, wind, and solar. The others: biofuels, liberate vast amounts of carbon dioxide; nuclear, leaves toxic wastes. We need to fund massive research into the no residue energy sources, so they may be applied as widely as possible. It is also important to realize that just one energy source will no longer suffice.
Put ecological solutions in action to create jobs
M.R.F. materials recovery facilities
No water(foam) toilets
"Konarka" solar panels made with hard to degrade plastic (give those 6, and 7 palstics a way to be recycled)
Put helix shaped wind turbines in big cities, on the roofs. There's more, I'm trying to upload to "You Tube" Watch Eco Tech, Big Ideas Small Planet, and Invention Nation.
