Eat the View

Announce plans for a food garden on the White House lawn, making one of the White House's eight gardeners responsible for it, with part of produce going to the White House kitchen and the rest to a local food pantry. The White House is "America's House" and should set an example. The new President would not be breaking with tradition, but returning to it (the White House has had vegetable gardens before) and showing how we can meet global challenges such as climate change and food security.

Tax Carbon to Fight Global Warming

Put a tax on carbon and other greenhouse gases so we can fight our climate crisis. A cap and trade will inevitably be manipulated by the market and business looking to make a buck. We need a REAL price on carbon and other pollutants.

Create a Clean Energy Economy

On Day One, the new president needs to end the tragic war in Iraq and bring back our young men and women. Then we can begin to spend our investments here at home to create a clean energy economy and good jobs for our people, to power our economy, to curb global warming, and to create a more sustainable society, environment, and econ for the 20th century.

Progressive Growth: Transforming America’s Economy through Clean Energy, Innovation, and Opportunity

Progressive Growth The American Dream has been a story of progressive policy establishing conditions in which individuals have been able to seize opportunities and make a better life for themselves, their children, their families, and their communities. It can be so again. The ladder of economic mobility can be rebuilt with the right leadership and progressive policy.

Renegotiate NAFTA

On Day One, I would like to see the president of the United States of America start renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement, as well as other trade agreements, to make sure they respect and take into account labor, environmental and human rights and prioritize the interests of ordinary people over the interests of corporations.

Pursuing The Global Common Good

Common Good Project Pursuing a Global Common Good means that U.S. foreign policy must go beyond preconceived notions of national self-interest and security by including our ethical obligations to the global community. Whether arguing against unjust wars or for our responsibility to lead against global warming, we challenge the faulty view that our national interests conflict with our ethical obligations.

Put a Green Roof and Solar Panels on the White House

My idea for the next president On Day One is to install a green roof, with solar panels around the edges, on the White House. This would get us started on solving our environmental problems by leading by example.

Solar to the White House!

The new president should put solar panels on the roof of the White House on the first day. This would be sending an incredible message, loud and clear, that the new president is committed to the environment and safe, alternative energy. The White House had solar panels on the roof during the Carter administration. It's time to bring solar back! As an American leader and global example, the president should push for renewable energy while setting a great example. The world will watch and follow.

Wild Fires

One of the major reasons we are seeing extensive fires in the west are the condition of the parks, etc. After the clearcutting of the 1800's, the realization of our blunder and the replanting. We took a hands off approach. The old growth forest had a very different under the canopy than today. Lets call for the non-fossilized means of underbrush removal in the national parks via a public works program. Put people to work a decent wage.
