Terrorism
Horrific terrorist acts in the United States, Spain, London, Egypt, and elsewhere have made homeland security and international efforts to combat terrorism a top priority for the United States and the next president.
The same 9/11 widows etc. who made the 9/11 Commission happen have now made the film 9/11 Press for Truth (view below) showing it was a whitewash. NY Times reporter Philip Shenon's new book The Commission reveals that much "evidence" came from torture and that Commission Exec. Director Philip Zelikow was joined at the hip with Condi Rice, consulted with Karl Rove during the investigation and then had those phone logs suppressed! Let's get a real investigation NOT controlled by politicians.
Nothing good has come from Guantanamo Bay-- Close it!
We can improve our image in the world by ending our war OF terrorism on peoples of the Middle East and on Arabs and Muslims, as well as getting our military troops out of the Middle East
End the 10 year expiration eligibility date on the GI Bill and provide full tuition to veterans willing to go in to Teaching, Border Security, or ICE.
Announce on Day One the development of a very large commission of leaders from around the world who are dedicated to finding solutions to overcoming the threat of Islamic terrorists, brainstorming, planning and implementing new ideas to defeat the voices of murder and destruction advocated by those who want to deny any and all freedoms and install radical allegience to a drastic obedience to a form of religious adherence determined by the likes of Osama bin Laden and other radical Islamists.
End the war on drugs. Reduce the federal deficit by treatment programs and education, not prison for non-violent offenders. 12% of the US prison population are serving time for marajuana violations?! WTF?!
Language matters. We've done a disservice to the Muslim world and the intelligence of all Americans by oversimplifying all of these conflicts -- Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and others -- under the guise of one war. These conflicts are largely movements that are using Islam as a political tool to advance their political agendas, and confronting them requires a disaggregated approach that considers that sees them for the distinct conflicts that they are.
Since "terror" is NOT a definitive country or person on which a war can be declared and has been used by this administration to abuse the rights and freedoms of the American people through a calculated attempt to keep us in a permanent state of siege through the use of FEAR, the first thing a progressive president must do is END THIS BOGUS WAR ON TERROR!
Implement the best plan for Iraq: Victory. We're not hated because of our presence in the Middle East, but because of their ideology. Appeasement and isolationism has never worked, and never will.
Our surrender and withdrawal from the Middle East will not change the teachings of Sayyid Qutb or the ideology of Osama Bin Laden. They don't understand compromise or peace. They understand one thing: terrorism.
We must implement a victory strategy. Finish the job, then bring the troops home.
Sign an Executive Order outlawing the "Enemy Combatant" designation for United States citizens -- under ANY circumstances -- and restore Habeus Corpus.
