Fix the Heroin Problem in Afghanistan

Afghanistan now produces an incredible 92% of the world's heroin as Afghani's have little else to rely on for their economic well being. The next president needs to adopt a realistic approach to managing the poppy trade and give the Afghan people other outlets to support themselves economically.

The Afghan heroin production has not been stopped for one reason: the vast amounts of money that the CIA and a number of prominent bankers, through money laundering, make with it.

The Taleban managed to do one good thing: they had almost eradicated heroin production by October 2001. Some regard this as their fatal mistake. The Americans came and fixed the problem.

Nordic is correct, the Taliban had eradicated nearly all the fields before the US invasion. The drug lords were back in full production shortly after we arrived. The Taliban had also banned dog fighting, and again... back in full swing.
