AMERICANS WANT OUT OF IRAQ!

"The most recent CBS/NYT poll asked people "From what you know about the U.S. involvement in Iraq, how much longer would you be willing to have large numbers of U.S. troops remain in Iraq
Average: 2.8 (29 votes)

It's all about the framing of the question. "Less than a year" is a great answer precisely because it's so nebulous as to be non-binding. We've all been telling ourselves "less than a year" since before we went in. "Should leave now" hardly sounds good to anyone-- because it removes other options, because it brings us devastatingly close to the moment of inevitability, because there is more than enough blame to go around. We need another study-- not a drawn-out one like 06's Iraq Study Group, but a follow-up to that. Then we need a plan: a thorough plan with detailed contingencies. Then we need to stick to the plan. And yes, it should take us less than a year.

My country has, at great sacrifice, offered the opportunity for freedom, self rule, to some 27 million Iraqi men, women, and children. That, by any measurement, is an historic legacy. I couldn't be prouder to be an American.
