The United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) announced today that it seeks to plant seven billion new trees by the time heads of state meet in Copenhagen in 2009 to discuss a successor to the Kyoto Protocol. That's about one tree per person on planet earth. If you think that's a tad ambitious, consider this: Since UNEP's Billion Trees Campaign began 18 months ago, some two billion trees have already been planted. Billion Trees received the sponsorship of some key stakeholders and funders, and has consequently been able to evolve into a true global movement. Consider this from today's announcement:

Heads of State including the presidents of Indonesia, the Maldives, Mexico, Turkey and Turkmenistan as well as businesses; cities; faith, youth and community groups have enthusiastically taken part. Individuals have accounted for over half of all participants.

*In a single day in Uttar Pradesh, India, 10.5 million trees were planted.

*35 million young people in Turkey have been mobilized to plant trees.

*500,000 schoolchildren in sub-Saharan Africa and the United Kingdom have become engaged.

It has also attracted the support of multilateral organizations including the Convention on Biological Diversity whose new Green Wave initiative was launched in advance of its important conference being held in Bonn, Germany later this month, and which supports the Billion, now Seven Billion, Tree Campaign.

As campaign for the green belt revolution globally billions of tress is needed to convert effect and extinction of plants and animal species. The biological diversity means need for conservation and protecting varieties of plants and animals their ecosystem between plants and animals. The UN convention of biological diversity of 1992 provided opportunities for sustainable development and fair equitable sharing of benefits from the use of genetically modified organism that are of high quality, drty resistance to disease, drought and of high yielding

This was adopted in UNSC resolution of 200 to follow the protocol to preserve genetically modified orgnanism, protection of endangered species as administered by UNEP.This calls for states parties to ensure regular updates of the list of plants and animals and species products such as Ivory should be protected .e.g. in south Africa 15,000 elephants reported to have invented crops and authorities requested for the animals to be transferred to safe place as they as source of tourisms.

The state parties show commitment in control of sulphur dioxide emission from industrial manufacturer that cause acid rain that pollute environment making sustainable biodiversity and parties remains committed to the UN economic commission for Europe. The protection goes to process of reduction of hazardous wastes and chemicals that has effect on the control adhering to Basel convention on the control of transbioundary movement of hazardous wastes and disposal and to adapt safe technology for disposal of waste, protecting high sea fish, commercialluy available and increasing incidence of violence over fishing on high sea lead government.

The conservation and sustainable management of fish will finger migrates across board seas of reach while adhering UN agreement on straddling fish stocking. To reduce biodiversity and extinction of species and to protect marine environment from pollution form ships and improve the safety of international shipping, avoid oil pollution from ship. All government need to introduce better methods of controlling disposal of waste lightening control through conservation. There is need to strengthen the protection of international convention for the prevetion of sea by oil as adapted 1954.

There is need to take measue to control accident at sea tanks to oil out spoil to minimise consequences and combat massive pollution. This has to be coupled with machanisms of reducing damaging into the sea waste generated by land use activites, cleaning the oil cargo tanks and disposal of engine room waste, reducing chemical waste, packaged, sewage and garbage’s to pollution of sea could live to extinction of aninals and plants species that live in same ecosystem. The international community must create specific funds for oil pollutiondamege withestabilshed system of conpasation of those who suffered financially as resuilt of pollution.

There is need to address tropical storm forecasting on climate change and argue the public, private and commercial use of airline, shipping industry. this call for engagement in activities which contribute to safety of life, property, economic and social development while strengthening the protection of theenvironment.Focusing on the earth atmosphere climate change come need to facilitate international cooperation in established network of standards of meteorological ,hydrological and other observation. The development frame work to promote the rapid exchange of meteorological information, standardisation of meteorological observation, information, publication and application of meteorological to aviation, shipping, water problem, agriculture together with other activites. There is need to promote operation of hydrology encourage training and research. This become critical for countries affected by cyclone programme assist vulnerable countries to minimise destruction and loss of life by improving forecat, warning system and disaster preparedness of timely weather.
