Greening and Freewheelin' Denver

Historically, at least, the Democrats have held an overwhelming advantage over Republicans on the question of which party would best manage and protect the environment.  Thus, in an attempt to “walk the talk,” convention organizers have made a concerted effort to turn Denver “green” this week.  You see it everywhere—from composting bins at the blogger tent to wooden key cards at local hotels.

But the initiative I’ve been most impressed with has been the Convention’s Freewheelin’ program—a free bike share system open to anyone and everyone in the city (full disclosure: I am an avid cyclist, and an early adopter of Washington D.C.’s SmartBike program).

It’s as simple as it is convenient.  Spend three minutes signing up, and freewheelin’ will give you a scannable card, which you can use to pick up bikes (as well as locks and helmets) at any of the eight local stations

Anna Hobbs-Little, a Freewheelin' volunteer, explains.
