Put an Energy Revolution in Motion!

Put an Energy Revolution in Motion!

On Day 1, the next president should demonstrate the political will to create the energy revolution that this world needs. He or she should take steps to reduce and eventually eliminate the nation's dependency on oil. If this isn't done, we'll all find ourselves in big trouble a few years down the road. In this way, the president can demonstrate the kind of courage and leadership that we constantly say we have, and our country can prove its benevolence to the planet.

People keep remarking how the American people make no sacrifices for the war effort. If we would sacrifice speeding in gas hog cars and RV's, there wouldn't be so much demand for foreign oil. 55mph is 10% more fuel efficient than going 70. Also there is no reason for passenger cars to have 8 cylinders and hundreds of horsepower.

That's true, but I think we need to start moving toward fewer cars in general. You can improve your quality of life by living a car-free lifestyle. I know everyone's not for this, but we need policies that make it easier to do for those who are. One of these is improving funding for public transit systems. That would be a great first step in the long, arduous process of getting Americans to change their lifestyles--a change that I believe to be necessary for many reasons.

We do need an energy revolution and we need the worlds best mass transit system.Between just those two things we could rule the world,in a peaceful way and be a world leader in healthy energy production and caring for the welfare of the people and the planet.

Happy to have your support, Ed P. You should check out my other idea on this site about developing mass transit. It's ridiculous that in the country that built the trans-continental railroad, I can't get a cheap train ticket to go from Washington, DC to North Carolina, and even if I could, I'd have no way to get any farther than the train station when I got there!

This can and should be fixed!

On the path to energy independence we need to abandon the myth of "voluntary" compliance as it has never worked. If a regulation is important to the remediation of a pollution source, then it must be mandatory if its goals are to be realized.
Traffic laws are not voluntary nor should pollution control laws be and they should be enforced with equal vigor.
