Support Democracy in Pakistan

Send a clear message to the Pakistani people that we support democracy in their country by empowering dissenting voices like Bhutto, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Nawaz Sharif. Attach some strings to the billions we're sending over in aid by DEMANDING that whoever the President is, they kill or capture Bin Laden and al-Zawahiri.

The word DEMAND in this statement betrays an unfortunate idea -- and attitude -- that the US can and should tell other nations what to do. This does not fit with the desire for cooperative relationships--much as I agree with the objective of capturing Bin Laden
Almost as disturbing as the use of the word DEMAND is the equation of Bhutto and Sharif with the "dissenting voices" of Pakistan's people. The US should certainly make its aid to Pakistan conditional on democratization - and ensure that more of the aid goes to things like schools, hospitals, infrastructure, rather than just to an ineffective military - but picking a new dictator will not achieve this aim.
I don't agree with the idea of America telling other countries what to do, and I think we stick our nose into too much of their affairs that don't concern us. Sending aid to help others if fine, but charity begins at home first! We should help our own first and above all others, especially the poor tribes of Native American Indians who don't have adequate, or affordable, health care. There is so much people right here in THIS country need and are not getting. Considering that, why should I be in favor of supporting another country when our own people are freezing and starving to death, don't have food to eat or clothes on their backs, and don't even have adequate plumbing and heating. I think it's very sad, and shameful, when our own President won't help these people and the leader of another country, Hugo Chavez, has to step in and help them so they don't freeze and starve in the bitter winters...that alone should have shamed our President into stepping in and helping them, but it didn't. And I say the discrimination against Native Americans concerning job opportunities should stop now, and should come to a halt in other areas as well. It's time they had the equal opportunities that others enjoy. And the government should stop taking their land away and forcing them off of it! Yes, that IS still going on and should stop NOW! The issues of Native American Indians should be addressed and taken care of. Don't you think it's time for that? I do! It's time for the oppression and discrimination to end, and equal rights to be given freely as it is to others. The people right here in this country need help, and you're talking about Pakistan? Wake up! We want equal rights and peace!
Considering that, why should I be in favor of supporting another country when our own people are freezing and starving to death
Care to provide some evidence (citations, news stories, court cases, etc) of these starvations and freezings to death going on in the US? Especially those that exceed the statistical norms observed in lets say the last 50 years ...
Same with the ongoing Federal land grabs of Native American property?
Thanks.
Bhutto is dead, and was never a real proponent of democracy exceot on speaking engagements in the west. Zardari and Sharif are thieves.
Pakistan is rife with corruption at the highest levels, and with greater than 50% illiteracy does not have capapbiolity to have a representative democracy.
We need to support development of education, and not just support corrupt governments in order to meet US foreign policy objectives.
