Support the National Initiative for Democracy

Support the National Initiative for Democracy! This idea, proposed by Sen. Mike Gravel, would empower the American people to become a kind of supplement to the Congress. They would propose legislation, vote on it, and pass it into law if it got enough votes. This would empower the American people to stop relying on corrupt politicians and a broken system in order to get things done and better their nation. Support real, direct democracy in America!

Under the issue "Democracy in the World" Evan Ravitz has submitted a suggestion entitled "Real Democracy for America" which makes this same suggestion. He has developed there a significant set of comments about the National Initiative and his suggestion has moved steadily up to now have reached the "front page" of this website. Please go also to Evan's link and add to the support for initiatives that has been so strong there.

I've talked to Evan and I already voted for it, but added this to supplement Evan's. The way I see it, the more the merrier in this situation.

Yes, more is merrier! And thanks for your observation that the media continually misrepresents us as wanting to do away with "representative" government. Actually, the "check and balance" of the National Initiative is about the only thing that will pressure politicians to be representative. Please see my comment about your post on my page...

Thanks for talking us up, Ross. Are you the Ross who came to Gravel's Democracy Symposium in 2002? By the way I hope you're promoting Vote.org rather than NationalInitiative.us. It's far easier to remember and even Mike's tech people admit it's easier to understand...

No, I'm not that Ross. I only heard of Gravel through his campaign for president. And I was barely through elementary school in 2002...

Here's a politician who campaigns to give YOU power. No wonder that it seems most people don't take Mike Gravel seriously. The idea of the National Initiative is so dissonant to the way Americans have been treated by their government that we don't know how to handle it. We have no context.

Time to wake up, get real, and take on responsibility, and our rightful power over our own lives and future.

The only other option is to give both away to a band of idiots. We've been there, and done that. Is it working?

There's a mass donation week going on right now for Mike Gravel. Check out http://youtube.com/user/phillyforgravel for a video that contains all the info you need on it.
