Abstinence education is a joke; a total waste of taxpayer dollars.

Are you kidding???!! Abstinence not a viable option for preventing STD's, HIV, and pregnancy? That's not what I read in my science textbook. Having abstinence offered as a viable, acceptable choice is important to keep social pressure to have sex off girls and guys too. It just shouldn't be the only sex education given. All options should be explained, along with the full understanding of consequences for those choices.

in a perfect world this would work. but acorrding to statistics it doesnt. plain & simple abstinence is not realistic. ....A do i realy have to go into the reasons why? L O L although it could be offered along with all the rest of it. it shouldnt be a seperate issue.

yes, this is definitely true. if people want to resort to abstinence, by all means they could but there should be no waste in time, effort , or money to educate about it. it's plain and simple. sex education is more necessary. In the Netherlands, they teach sex ed more explicitly and openly to younger kids like 12, and they have half as many early pregnancies and less STDs.
