On day one, the next president should take the lead in mandating large cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, installing pollution controls, and meeting with China and India to do the same. Fuel and energy efficiency must also be mandated, with costly punishments for those corporations who do not comply. We are out of time.
All countries must dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions if we are to avoid catastrophic consequences of climate change on nations and peoples around the world. United States has the economic ability, the knowhow and a substantial part of the population is interested in USA to take the leadership in developing sustainable and drastic solutions. The quicker we act the less painful this will be.
