Alternative Energy and Supporting Orgainc Farming

I am encouraged by the direction you have been heading concerning alternative energies and using green technologies and upgrading our energy grid to put people back to work. Please encourage more organic farming by saving our farmland from suburban sprawl and changing the mono-cropping of soy and corn to more diversified crops. Don't use these foods for fuel; use garbage. Compost can heat greenhouses in climates like NY so we can grow food throughout the year. Reduce factory farming of animals

If I already pay more for sustainable, healthy food, why do I have to pay taxes to subsidize junk?

End subsidies for cheap food that makes us sick. Our society needs to get back to sustainable agriculture. Small farms cannot compete with large, subsidized farms. A more balanced playing field would encourage people to purchase more healthy food. Real food, not cheap food-like products. How can a packaged amalgamation of ingredients be cheaper than the sum of its parts? Subsidies. AND food is very much connected with our health care crisis. I don't want my taxes to go to these unfair subsidies.

Eat the View!

Announce plans for a large organic Victory Garden on the First Lawn with the produce going to the White House kitchen and local food pantries. The White House is "America's House" and should serve as a model at a time of economic and environmental crisis. President-elect Obama would not be breaking with tradition, but returning to it (the White House has had food gardens before) and leading by personal example on global challenges such as food security, climate change, and energy independence.
