I believe that "the war on terror" should be police investigations and prosecutions by states.
"The war on terror" is not suitable for a military action.
The same goes for drug interdiction, the Fourth Fleet is being activated to police the Caribbean and "lend" aid to South Americans.
Our military isn't or wasn't trained for this kind of action which makes the military sorta stupid.
Rant,rant,rant.
On Day One, the next president of the United States should begin preparations to immediately and unconditionally end the war in Iraq - the biggest strategic mistake of our lifetime and a distraction from the war on terror and America's strategic interests in the Middle East and at home.
Given the possiblity of justice, those who resort to "terrorism" are a tiny minority. The failure to discern enemy from innocent feeds the cycle of revenge, renown, and reaction.
President Bush insists that "everything changed on 9/11". Perhaps many people, like him, had been ignorant of the problematic, interconnected world we exist in prior to those terrible attacks-- but a lot has happened since then. Attaining peace in such volatile circumstances-- and regaining our foothold as a leader among nations in the realms of religious tolerance, human rights, and meaningful conflict resolution-- will require a thorough re-framing of our task.
