Shut corporate tax loopholes for any company not doing EVERYTHING it can to fight global warning.
Reward new techniques and fuel types that conserve, especially very high mileage cars and non-food type biofuels (e.g. algae, grass), with focus on those that produce least carbon.
Reward conservation rather than just punish overusage.
Huge CAMPAIGN to encourage people to support those who conserve - use social pressure.
Fund training for new jobs for people threatened by loss of jobs.
On day one, I would want the President to:
1. call all major players in the middle east to a three day "engagement conference". The focus: stability in Iraq.
2. Bring the govt in Sudan to account via a new UN resolution authorizing the use of an international force if direct steps are not taken to halt the slaughter.
3. Re-engage the international community on the Kyoto Treaty
4. Authorize a complete audit and analysis of that state of security of our port system and major infrastructure.
Ending this occupation in Iraq and confronting the perils of Global Warming are major considerations. However, it seems to me we need to focus on education, to help our children and grandchildren be aware of the moral goodness of striving for Peace, to be aware of what is needed to be good conservationists. Right now, our educational system is bland and powerless. So our next President needs to help restore viable education in the United States.
