I think the next President should focus on ending poverty which was Edwards' goal, not only in America but the world over. Address the food crisis going on, especially in the developing and poorer countries, address skyrocketing gas prices, alternative uses for transportaiton instead of oil, conservation funding for animals, habitats, cleaner air and water, STOP MAKING MORE NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND POWER PLANTS, GET US OUT OF IRAQ, REAL ESTATE, ADDRESS OUR ECONOMY ABOVE ALL THINGS.
Disarm and dismantle all nuclear weapons. Yes, unilaterally! Lead an aggressive diplomacy effort to bring about global disarmament of nuclear weapons. This means we stop being the world's greatest terrorist, and lead the world by example in how to make peace, not war. The world is not safe from annihilation as long as nuclear weapons exist. This ban should also apply to depleted uranium munitions: use of depleted uranium must be banned. We must stop poisoning Iraq and the world with DU!
In order to show good faith, to make amends for past transgressions, and to show real leadership I propose that the United States immediately begin a 100% nuclear decommissioning program. This program would completely disarm the United States as a nuclear power. All current weapons in the arsenal would be safely dismantled and the toxic nuclear waste properly disposed of. All funding for nuclear weapons research will be immediately cut.
