Problem is the stance the US takes - of "top-dog". Instead of trying to push the other countries around, to force them to follow US policies, we could try building alliances for improvement of conditions (poverty and famine among others) in their parts of the world. Make friends of the peoples of the world and work WITH them, not exploiting them however we can. Then THEY will help control terrorists. Poverty and terrorism are connected!
Motivate the American people to get up and be change agents in their own world. Teach them, guide them, and help them to find the strength, skills, and determination to build their own organizations and stand up for the causes they believe in. We can't ask the President to fix all the problems of the world, but we can, should, and must ask him/her to do as much as they can to help us as we try to. Indeed, democracy is about participation of the whole, not the leadership of the few.
I support Lester Brown's idea as written and charted in his book, Plan B 2.0. He points out that if we reduced our excessive defense funding by one-third and transfered those dollars to environmental actions, as well as endeavors to improve human education, health, and welfare, we could solve our stressed planet's troubles, globally!
