It is time for us to return to local sustainable communities. Imagine if your town / city / county was generating its own green power, producing its own food, and providing all the basics that all of that community needed!? As a demonstration to the country and to the world of the commitment of President elected Obama to build a more sustainable future, I suggest the creation of the "President's Advisory Commission on Education for Sustainable Development" inside the Department of Education. The objective of this commission is to create the mechanisms and policies regarding the integration of principles of sustainability in all aspects of education in America by 2010.

Sign on to a commitment to switch to green energy and reduce our greenhouse gases 80% by 2050! If you do this on the first day, you will set the tone for the next few months and years! The economy is in crisis mode right now - but we have an opportunity right now to rebuild our economy on green jobs. Please make sustainability a priority and don't hesitate to act to make change on this front as soon as possible! Let's also make the environment a priority in schools! Thank you!

Our new president needs to take leadership in developing and implementing a National Strategy for Sustainability, as all the UN members agreed to do at the Rio Earth Summit and World Summit on Sustainable Development. MDG 7 calls for all countries to integrate environmental sustainability in theiir policies and actions. We need to make a rapid transition to full sustainability, quit depleting our natural resource base, poisoning our natural environment, and using toxics that hurt our health.
