Terrorism seems mostly to be a problem in areas where there is poverty, hunger, the lack of appropriate educational facilities and a reliance instead on madrasas that teach hate along with the lessons in how to read and write, and joblessness. If we were to target the things that breed terrorism and work alongside other nations to remedy them, we would soon see goodwill replace the present fear and hate driven terrorism we so much fear.
We need to be a nation that is seen as kind, compassionate and wise rather than as a bully nation that throws its power around, causes other nations to fear, denies rights of prisoners, upholds dictatorships while saying that it is pro- democracy, violates the air space and national sovereignty, and breaks its contractual obligations... Please improve our image around the world by acting in a wise, kind and compassionate manner yourself and as the head of this Nation.
We the American people are tired of the war in Iraq and, as it was entered into in error, we are wanting you to get us out of that conflict. The people of Iraq want us out. They believe that they would do better if we were not there. The world community may be more able to build up the infrustructure with our monies and without our presence there as now there are those who destroy whatever we build and as now there is ample resentment there against us for failing to do as the people hoped.
There is a need to have a pull out plan prior to engaging in any armed conflict. To initiate a war or a military action without such a plan is sheer stupidity. There is no excuse for fire, ready, aim planning when it comes to warfare. It is important that you know that the American people are tired of warring and will turn against you in a heartbeat if you try to do as the last Administration did and race to war without having reasonable plans for an exit strategy.
One of the things that is fostering poverty is the educational system which is now so focused on tests that the children are becoming bored and disinterested in going to school as they are unable to utilize their creativity, to get the assistance they need in order to develop their unique talents, etc. and so they drop out of school now in record numbers and then cannot compete in the job market. Do away with the test focus in the educational system and let the teachers teach.
Giving farmers subsidies for intentionally not producing crops is a crime unless there is evidence that the land is being allowed to lie fallow for only one growing season to allow it to recover and even then, there should be some evidence that other things are being done to improve the soil. When hunger is so prevalent in the world and even in this nation, it is important to insure that our farmers grow as much as they can and feed the people here first and then feed the rest of the world.
It is a mistake to label the issue of abortion or choice as the only woman's issue as it is amoung the least important of the lot... In the world and in this nation still there are women denied the opportunity to gain education, women who are sold into slavery, held hostage by ideas about "a woman's place," and women who are raped and killed by men without having legal recourse. These are priority issues that should be dealt with first.
It is important to remember that your oath of office states that you will uphold, defend, support the U.S. Constitution. If you try to use security concerns or some other motiveto weaken our civil rights and liberties and to make the Government and especially your Executive Branch of Government more powerful, you will have made yourself unfit for office as you would have violated your oath of office. Please preserve the Constitution as it is and error on the side of providing more civil rights.
It is far easier to maintain peace than it is to wage countless wars... There is wisdom in forming a Peace Department as that would put our focus on creating and sustaining peace. We have found that meditation decreases violence so let us insure that more of our citizens practice that and pray and intend too for peace for the world as these things are powerful according to all scientific studies.
Find other ways for developing nations to gain respect and to interact with the United States on a more level playing field in the Security Council, etc. without them having to gain nuclear weapons in order to do it. Insure that the language that is used with developing nations is non-threatening. Avoid economic sanctions as these encourage, in the long run, the perception of the need for nuclear weapons. Let's back away gradually from the weapons ourselves to model such behavior for others.
Focus attention on decreasing poverty, improving education and improving the food and water systems around the world to provide those who are poor with alternatives to revolution, terrorism, and global instability.
The present focus on terrorism does nothing but to increase the need for more focusing on it... It becomes an endless cycle just as the War on Drugs is an endless cycle which no one wins.
It might be a better strategy to attack the problem of air pollution directly rather than even using the term of global warming... It seems as if there is ample evidence that air, soil and water pollution does increase the number of health problems in an area and that air pollution has been linked to everything from reduced lung function, compromised immunity, increased cancer rates, etc. There is, just for this reason a need to reduce the emissions from the factories, cars, trucks, etc.
