An Idea for the GOP Platform Committee

Pay our dues, in full, to the UN. Multilateralism is an effective show of strength, around the world and here in the US. This strength requires (a relatively small) financial commitment to the UN and overwhelming support to its goals. The GOP platform MUST emphasize engagement in global matters through engagement in the United Nations. In addition to our regularly assessed dues, UN Peacekeeping is the single least expensive national security activities available in today’s world.

Management of Executive Agencies

I think it a good idea for the next administration expand the U.S.-U.N. relationship, work to strengthen the dollar, pay down the deficit, etc. I disagree with many of the Bush Administration’s policies, but recognize some success at bringing about better management practices into executive branch agencies. I recommend keeping some of Bush's management policies within the federal government (including the Expanded Electronic Government initiatives) so as to promote transparency and trust.

Nuclear Energy is Not Clean

OD1, stop calling Nuclear Energy a "Clean" source of energy. It may not emit C02, but nuclear waste are some of the most toxic materials ever created. Its long terms effects on the world are not mitigated by a lack of greenhouse emissions. To reduce the effects of climate change (and rising cancer rates), our next president must stop call nuclear a "clean" power source. I doubt the people of Nevada consider nuclear energy a clean alternative to coal. Hydorelectricity... there's clean power!
