My Ideas

Sustainable Energy Task Force...

...starring ordinary Americans. There are so many good ideas. So many 'average' people have the vision to see beyond dependence on Oil (our own, or MidEast). Let's redo Cheney's Energy Task Force -- transparently, open to the media, involving people with real ideas, and experts to help determine if those ideas are feasible and how to turn the best ones into reality.

Putting our roadway medians to good use

Require that all medians in the U.S. which are capable of it, participate in Lady Bird Johnson's Highway Beautification program, or grow trees, or grow switchgrass. Trees are carbon sinks, and switchgrass can be harvested to use for ecofuels. We can't grow food in that space, because of the pollutants from passing cars. We could, however, use switchgrass for less polluting fuels in the first place. We could also add windmills, which could occupy the same space. Cars produce a LOT of wind.

Secretary of the Environment

Offer someone well known and well respected (Al Gore? T. Boone Pickens?) a cabinet level position as Secretary of the Environment. It is a long overdue position.

Make the White House energy independent!

On day one, the President and his family will move into a new house -- one which belongs to the American People. The VERY first thing they should do is set about making it energy independent, using every strategy: from reduced usage, using CFL bulbs, all the way to beginning installation of a solar power or geothermal energy grid to use at the White House. Think about the example this would set! A Carbon Neutral goal for the White House would get massive attention.
