Peace and force cannot be coexisted. Military force may be able to keep societies in order for a short term, but it is not peace. If it worked, it actually demonstrates the power of force which is the opposit of peace. Peace can only be achieved by sufficient communication and a democratic process. We need to provide sufficient equipment for newspaper, radio, TV, and Internet to a region. Then a democratic process can be built on top of them and long term peace can be kept.
Technologies improve with time. In the future, any groups of people may be able to develop nuclear weapons. To artificially stop the nuclear proliferation is important but getting more difficult with time. However, if we can promote democracy at the world level so that countries will solve issues peacefully. We also need to promote diversity at the world level so that no country will be threatened by majority. Then the world can be peaceful and no one needs nuclear weapons.
No one wants terrorism. No one wants to become a terrorist unless he/she thinks that everything else is hopeless. Let's give the ultimate freedom of speech and show tolerance towards them. Give them hope and an easy means to a peaceful approach. Let them speak openly about their ideas and these ideas to be judged by the public. A peaceful process will be preserved, i.e. no terrorism. Even if some bad ideas get supported in a short term, in the long term, good ideas will prevail.
Oil is a limited resource. If we drill more now, we have less to drill in the future. If we try to decrease the dependence of foreign oil now by more drilling, we will be more dependent on foreign oil in the future. Global market economy will eventually control oil prices and availability. As long as we keep an open, global market, there is nothing we need to do, or worry about. The only one thing we can do concerning energy is to develop sources of alternative energy.

In a modern society with latest communication technology, people can easily connect and promote their thoughts. Gun and military power can not stop that nor changing people's mind. Only sufficient communication can persuade people and change their (and our) minds to reach a peaceful region and world. Both US and Iraq have to understand this to successfully end the war.
